This post is a continuation of previous one, but the rooting of broccoli shoots with the aid of phenolic foam (a kind of floral foam).
The usage of this technique is advised for branches that are young and/ or soft, which tend to bend when inside water (for rooting). Another advantage of phenolic foam is that it protects the roots at replanting.
We start the same way as we did before: working the side shoots removed from broccoli.
Cut the shoots close to the stem, preferably between 5 and 10 cm long (2 to 4 in) and then remove between 2 and 4 of the lower leaves, being careful not to damage the shoot.
Place in a 200 ml (7 fl. oz.) half full glass of water. Leave it for 2 days in a shaded spot.
After two days resting in water, insert the shoots into pieces phenolic foam sizing 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 3 cm (1 in x 1 in x 1.2 in), keep the smooth side facing down.
